Back Scratch Fever

Some of you will remember this post, from last March, in which I showed a photograph of mysterious scratches that appeared on my left shoulder.  I bite my fingernails and they do not protrude above the flesh of my fingers, so I question whether I could have done it to myself.

Well, almost exactly one year later, the scratches have returned, again to my left shoulder:

Any ideas on what this could be?  The logical explanation is that I’m scratching myself in my sleep, even given my stubby nails.  Of course, others will suggest demonic visitation.  Who’s got some real theories?

    Definitely Demonic. Without a doubt. A year to the date. Did the events occur after you changed residences? Are you visited by strange dreams?

    Do you wear a backpack too full of books’n’stuff on occasion? Look like shoulder strap marks to me. Otherwise def. Rosemary’s Baby type demon love scratches.

    They don’t look like fingernail scratches. I have an awful habit of doing that to myself. Honestly they look more like cat scratches (of which I also get occasionally) but I assume you would have mentioned owning cats. The inflamed skin around the middle of the affected area though would give me pause to think demon (which I could total believe in the right circumstances :P but highly unlikely). I don’t know what to tell you except that if it happens again maybe check with your doctor. My unused EMT license isn’t very helpful here. But I bet a doc could tell you if that’s you in your sleep or not. *shrugs* that’s the best help I can give…

    Hi, I found your picture while looking for an explanation of mine scratches in the internet. I found it very interesting because they look exactly like mine – more like from feline than human fingernails. I find them on my body for many years now about once a week or a month after getting up in the morning and they are usally on my legs. I was absolutely sure that I myself produced them sleeping until I realized that I could not produce the same voluntarily.

    Demonic visitations?  Really? =)) a demon would go through all that trouble just to do what? scratch you with a “pin-needle”?  Come on, get real.  Its something you are doing to yourself by:

    A)nails
    B)rings/jewelry
    C) u have a small piece of glass somewhere, but that is NOT no alien visitation or demons
