The history of this site…
“Political, social, scientific, personal and literary commentary from Dr. Raywat Deonandan: scientist, author, rogue and knave. “
Welcome to the fifth version of this blog. The original deonandan.com site went live in 1993, with the blog making its first appearance in 1999, albeit in basic HTML format, called simply, “Raywat Deonandan’s Bulletin”. I think this makes it one of the oldest blogs that’s still active today. In 2005, I bit the bullet and signed up with a traditional blog provider, Blogspot (now Blogger). At that point, the site was re-christened Deonandia.
Well, after Google bought Blogger, they discontinued support for their FTP-based blogs… of which Deonandia was one. After much consternation, in May of 2010 I finally managed to migrate most of my content to the current format, self-hosted using WordPress software. I still haven’t figured out how to bring all the user comments over here, as well, but stay tuned; I’m working on it (10 years later).
At the start of 2014, I’ve upgraded the site to make it more of a commercially useful portal for all of my personal, artistic, and academic pursuits. And in 2020, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and a sudden spike in readership, I changed it again to focus more on my scientific writing, though more than a smattering of personal reflection and puerile nonsense remains. Let’s see how long this lasts. Click on the blog to access the new material, of course.
